Moonlighting on the Internet by Yanik Silver

If you want to learn about how you can sell things and make money on the internet, then you need Yanik’s book .  If you want technical information about how to set up sexy websites or blogs,

Maybe it's time for this guy to take a break?!

Maybe it's time for this guy to take a break?!

then you don’t need Yanik’s book.  I’ll be honest, at first the really direct, salesmany-like style of the book put me off.  I mean, I always feel a little uncomfortable if I’m getting the heavy sell on something.  However, Yanik’s writing style comes about because that’s what he does, write sales copy.  And besides, Pat Flynn from SmartPassiveIncome.com has recommended this book multiple times and Pat is Crushing It, so I cut the book some slack and ended up glad that I did.

What makes Moonlighting so special is that it was written for me, a guy with a day job who wants to use the leverage of the internet to take his business to another level, or to someone who wants to make some extra money on the web; whereas most internet marketing books that I have read are written with the big business Madison Avenue types in mind.  And Moonlighting is full of practical and usable tips that are fantastic for the beginner looking for direction or someone like me who has a start but really wants to get to that next level.  Plus check out some of the co-authors, Darren Rowse, Mr. ProBlogger himself, wrote the section on blogging, Sydney Johnson wrote the section on eBay, and Rosalind Gardner wrote the section on affiliate marketing.  Heavyweights all with massive pull and name recognition in the online business world.

As I read the book I focused on keeping a list of notes for future reference to help guide my own site and economic endeavors; as I said the book is heavy on providing you solutions and practical information, but I also got a real kick out of reading some of the success stories that had been submitted by people that Yanik or one of his co-authors had coached or worked with.  Nothing motivates like success!

Caveat Lector

As is always true on the internet sometimes you have to take the information given with a grain of salt, after all, it’s not like any of these experts have to turn in audited financial statements to the SEC or anything.  Also, keep in mind that both Yanik and all his co-authors are now in the business of selling advice to you and I on how we can make money on the internet, so don’t expect any discourses on the blood, sweat and tears you will expend while getting things going.  Plus, Yanik isn’t exactly a subtle guy and you very quickly catch on to the fact that he is using this book as a vehicle to promote his own coaching program for wanna-be internet entrepreneurs.  Also, the companion website is jankety as hell although again it does has some quality resources.

Just a quick note on my book review policy, I read tons of books so I only do reviews on books that I think are high-quality resources for you.

Please leave your questions or offer your solutions below. As the WebCPA and the author of WebBizFinance.com, my job is to help you grow your business and solve your business finance and accounting problems!
